Subject: Postdoctoral position at the University of Hawaii at
       Manoa (Honolulu Hawaii USA)
Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2022 19:54:15 -0600

A postdoctoral research position is available in Dr. Yang’s laboratory at
Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences
(https://cms.ctahr.hawaii.edu/hnfas/People) of the. University of Hawaii at
Manoa (Honolulu, Hawaii, USA).

The main research project is to study the effects of skeletal muscle and
bioactive compounds on glucose homeostasis in diabetes in animal models.
Active skeletal muscle effectively regulates metabolic activities and
energy balance. Preservation of muscle mass in obesity, insulin
resistance/type II diabetes is important for effective treatment and
prevention of diabetes. Currently, our laboratory has maintained myostatin
propeptide transgenic mice with enhanced muscle growth (Zhao et al., 2005.
BBRC 337:248-255.). You can also search google with key words (Jinzeng Yang
myostatin and diabetes), you should be able to find most of my
publications.

The candidate is required to have strong independent working skills and
experiences in using transgenic animals for diabetes research, and
molecular biology laboratory, and academic writing skills. An applicant
with interests in muscle growth and reproduction in aquatic species is
welcome to apply.

This position is for two years now with possible extensions depending upon
grant applications, and currently annual pay is between $30-40,000, with
potential increasing pay for teaching one related course for animal
science, or nutrition undergraduate programs, or PI award of new grant
funding. The position is expected to start as soon as possible or in spring
semester 2022. This post will be expired by the end of January 2022. US
citizens and J-1 visiting scholars are encouraged to apply.

For more information on the research projects or to submit an application,
please email jinzenghaweaii.edu (Dr. Jinzeng Yang), Application should
include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the name and contact
information of 2 references).
