Info Sheet
Epigenetics Discussion Group

"epigroup" is operated on SmartList, which automates the processing of
your requests through emails. Below is a brief introduction on its usage.

             Using the List Server
             ---------------------
1. The POSTING ADDRESS:

              epigroup@animalgenome.org

is for posting your mails to participate in the discussion, ask questions,
or send an announcement. Please note you must be a list subscriber in order
for your mail to be accepted for distribution.

Please also be aware that your mail must be sent in plain text for the list
to process. i.e. no mail in hyper-text (html) format nor with any attachment
is accepted.

2. The SERVICE ADDRESS:

              epigroup-request@animalgenome.org

is for handling "Subcription"/ "unsubscription"/ "info"/ "help" requests.
Here are some examples how to use it:

 - To get more information about this list service, send "info" or "help"
    as in: ------------------------------------------
              To: epigroup-request@animalgenome.org
              Subject: info
              ------------------------------------------

 - To subscribe to the epigroup list, send "subscribe" on Subject line
    as in: ------------------------------------------
              To: epigroup-request@animalgenome.org
              Subject: subscribe
              ------------------------------------------

 - To unsubscribe from a mailinglist, simply use "unsubscribe" in Subject
    as in: ------------------------------------------
              To: epigroup-request@animalgenome.org
              Subject: unsubscribe
              ------------------------------------------

In the event of your address change, it would probably be the wisest to
first unsubscribe the old address (this can be done from your new address),
then subscribe the new address (the order is important).

It is advisable that you do not send multiple service requests in one mail.
Only the first request will be processed per mail. Most service requests are
processed automatically without human intervention. In events you may
encounter any problem, email the listmaster for help.

NOTE:
====
The -request server usually does quite a good job in discriminating
between (un)subscribe requests and messages intended for the maintainer.
If you'd like to make sure a human reads your message, make it look
like a reply (i.e. the first word in the Subject: field should be "Re:",
without the quotes of course); the -request server does not react to
replies, which will be forward to the listmaster.

                     Using the Archive Server
                     ------------------------
Every submission sent to this list is archived. The mail header of a posting
on this list usually contains the file name (usually a number) under which it
is archived. The X-Mailing-List: field contains the mail address of the
list and the file in which this submission was archived.

If you want to access this archive, you have to send mails to the -request
address with the word "archive" as the first word of your Subject line, as in:
              ------------------------------------------
               To: epigroup-request@animalgenome.org
               Subject: archive help
              ------------------------------------------

Alternatively, you can retrieve the archived mails via a Web interface, which
is powered by a list archive search engine.
