Position: Graduate Research Assistant (Ph.D. program)

Number: Two Positions
Starting Date: As soon as possible, continuation of position dependent upon
satisfactory performances.
Duties:
The student’s responsibilities are to pursue and successfully complete the
academic requirements of graduate programs. Research activities will use
animal models and molecular biology tools to study skeletal muscle growth and
diabetes preventions with bioactive compounds from specialty tropical plants,
Students will have the opportunity to learn advanced lab techniques such as
mRNA vaccine for gene silencing, qPCR, immunohistochemistry, western
blotting, and transcriptome analysis, etc. The research assistantship will
require approximately 20 hours per week of research activities including
literature searching, scientific writing, animal and laboratory works and
study coordination. Data generated through research activities will be
suitable for thesis. Additional duties include preparing data for
presentation at scientific meetings and preparing manuscript(s) for
publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications: Currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in a graduate
program in nutritional science, animal science, molecular bioscience and
bioengineering, or any other graduate program in biomedical sciences.
Experiences in working with molecular biology, animal models, diabetes and
nutritional sciences, good knowledge of biochemistry, molecular and cell
biology, and laboratory analytical skills is highly desirable.
Stipend: As per UH Manoa graduate assistantship policy, pay level is between
$25,000-$30,000 per year with a full tuition waiver for graduate program at
UHM.
