Subject: Course - Recent advances in animal breeding applied
        to aquaculture -
Date: Wed, 03 Jul 2024 09:59:46 -0500
Dear colleagues,

on September 10 - 12, 2024, we will organize a course on "Recent advances
in animal breeding applied to aquaculture", in Wageningen.

Selective breeding is an important tool for aquaculture production, to
improve efficiency, animal health, and sustainability. Animal breeding is a
highly technical field applying computational analysis and modelling,
genomic information, and high throughput data from imaging and sensor data
on biologically relevant traits. A successful breeding programselects the
useful technologies and combines them effectively to obtain the genetic
improvement that is needed in the specific species and production
environment.

In this course, experts from Wageningen University & Research, INRAE, HCMR,
and SINTEF will inform participants on the latest technologies that are
currently implemented or are close to application in livestock research and
which could be of interest for aquaculture. Participants will discuss with
the experts how to apply these technologies and discover their potential
impact by simulating breeding program designs during the course.

Participants will also discuss the future needs of the aquaculture industry
and how these can be addressed by selective breeding during an industry
forum. A preliminary program is attached or can be found at the link below.

This course is aimed at PhD students, post-docs, early stage researchers
and professionals working in breeding of aquatic species. Registration can
be done at:

https://wias.crs.wur.nl/...ourses/details/1731/

Available places are limited to 30 so early registration is recommended. We
look forward to seeing you in Wageningen!
